Free Motion Landscape

Class Length: 6 hours

Description

"Paint" a colorful landscape suitable for framing with your sewing machine.

This is a multi-media class. We will start by drawing on fabric and layering sheers for sky and water effects. We will use free motion stitching on the background fabric and on water soluble stabilizers to give the landscape a greater sense of depth.

In a one day class you will be able to complete the featured (5" x 7") landscape. The two day class allows for larger works with more detailing and techniques. In the two day version students may bring in their own photographs or work from one of mine.

Skills and Skill Levels required for class

Students should be familiar with their sewing machine and standard sewing. Some experience with free motion embroidery may be helpful.

Supply List

• Sewing Machine with foot pedal and power cord.
• Free motion embroidery or darning foot.
• 6" embroidery hoop (should be thin one made especially for machine embroidery).
• 80/12 metafil or 80/12 toptstitch needles.
• Small thread scissors.
• Fabric Scissors.
• Soft lead pencil.
• Bobbin thread.
• Embroidery threads in landscape colors (lavenders, yellows & golds, browns, warm & cool greens, and several shades of blue). Bring a selection of colors.
• Small pieces of netting in a variety of colors (think skies, sunsets, water).
• Fat quarter good quality cotton muslin (white).
• Optional: 64 or 96 color set of crayons.

• Water soluble stabilizer.
• Lecture notes.
• Use of instructors supplies (sheers, nettings, crayons, etc.)
