Creative Play Fabric Dyeing Workshop

Class Length: 6 hours

Description

Join me for a day of creative play exploring a wide range of surface design techniques on fabric using fiber reactive dyes. Try your hand at dye painting, orizomegami, simple shibori, fabric marbling and more.

Throughout the day I will demonstrate a number of techniques, and give you ample time to experiment with each.

I will bring the dyes, pipettes, brushes, stamps, string and all the other equipment. You bring fabric and a sense of exploration.

Skills and Skill levels required for class

This class is designed for both the beginner and intermediate dyers. The more you already know about dyes, the further you can go in the class.

Supply List

• 4-5 yards of 100% cotton fabric - cut to fat quarters.
• Plastic ziplock bags, quart or gallon sized, to take dyed fabrics home in. (one bag for each piece of dyed fabric).
• Wear clothes suitable for painting, you will almost certainly get wet.
• Rubber gloves are highly recommended, and you might want a plastic apron.
• Feel free to bring a sack lunch.

Lab Fee: $10.00

Lab fee includes:

• All dyes and dye chemicals used in class.
• Use of miscellaneous supplies (brushes, pipettes, string, buckets, measuring utensils, drop clothes, paper towels, etc.)
• Handouts: setting up a dye space at home and complete lecture notes.
